The theme for National Poetry Day 2016 is ‘Messages’. As ever, we’d love to celebrate this year with your short lines and couplets to share with the world on October 6th!
We’re asking you to send us two lines on the theme of ‘Messages’ – we’ll then share a selection of the lines we receive on our Twitter feed and our website throughout the day on National Poetry Day itself.
‘Messages’ is a perfect theme for poets. Every poem is a kind of message in some way, whether it’s one you share with whole world, or one you only share with yourself.
We’d love you to interpret this theme as widely and wonderfully as you like! We can’t wait to see what you come up with and send you poetry messages zipping out into the universe.
How to submit your lines
You can submit your lines via email to educationadmin@poetrysociety.org.uk. Please include your name, date of birth and address and the subject line ‘Messages’. You can also send us your lines via Twitter or Facebook.
We welcome lines from poets up to the age of 25, from anywhere in the world. The deadline is 12 noon on October 5.
Please do be sure to check through the general Terms and Conditions for YPN Challenges as well.
When you enter, we will add you to the Young Poets Network emailing list – please let us know if you’d rather we didn’t.

I’ve spent days
Reading that one line
Over and over
And darling
I love you too
But I want you to say it to my face
