Young Poet Laureate for Worcestershire

Closed for 2020. We’re looking a young poet with something to say and who love’s saying it with words! Every year, one young person from Worcestershire is given the title Worcestershire’s Young Poet Laureate.  In this role, our Young Poet Laureate champions poetry as an art form with the aim of encouraging and inspiring other young people to write and perform poetry.

As well as being known as Worcestershire’s Young Poet Laureate for the year (what a great thing for future CVs!), the winner’s name is engraved on the trophy which they can keep for the year. In addition to this they will be mentored by a professional poet and given coaching on writing and performance.

Our exciting competition runs from 13 January until 8 March 2020. During this period, young people across the county are invited to put to pen to paper and compete for the coveted title of being Worcestershire’s next Young Poet Laureate.

The competition has three age groups 8-11, 12-15 to 15 and 16-18. We’re not necessarily looking for the next Shakespeare but if one is found, they won’t be turned away!

Each year we run poetry workshops led by professional spoken word poets for young people in schools and public libraries.

Details of the locations of the workshops will be shared soon. Visit their website to find out more.
