NaPoWriMo 2020

Happy April! You might not know that April is National Poetry Writing Month – the global poetry generating project that’s been running since 2003. NaPoWriMo invites you to write a poem a day throughout April in common with poets all over the world. Now more than ever do we feel the need to be involved in a world-wide, interconnected celebration of creativity. So, for every day in April, we’ll be publishing a writing prompt a day over on The Poetry Society’s Instagram. Write as many or few poems as you like – the idea is to surprise your imagination into creating new work.

Here’s the first prompt:

We won’t be updating this page with every day’s prompt, but you don’t need an Instagram account to read the prompts! Just follow along here.

When you’ve got to the end of the month, what to do with your 30 (or so) new poems? If you’re aged 11-17, you could enter them for the Foyle Young Poet of the Year Award. If you’re 17+, you could hang on to them to enter in to the 2020 National Poetry Competition which opens later this summer. 30 poems is even three quarters of a collection! Happy writing…
