  1. Hi,

When does this re-open please and what are the age ranges? My daughter is 7 and it’s hard to find competitions for younger ages.

    1. Hello,

Thanks for your message! The Eric Gregory Awards are for collections of poetry and wouldn’t be suitable for a 7 year old. However, all the challenges on Young Poets Network are totally free and open to all poets of all ages up to 25. We do receive and publish entries by poets of your daughter’s age, so I would encourage her to enter. Even closed challenges can act as inspiration for her writing.

      Currently, we have open:

Thinking Outside the Penalty Box asks for poems inspired by extraordinary African lives, and offers the chance of print publication and up to £100 in book vouchers (we can convert this into your currency, don’t worry!): ypn.poetrysociety.org.uk/workshop/thinking-outside-the-penalty-box-poetry-challenge/ (closes 28 February – so get your skates on!)

Nearlyology is a challenge asking you to explore what has nearly happened to you, and how it’s changed your life. Enter by 11 March for the chance of publication on YPN and an exclusive notebook as well as other poetry goodies! ypn.poetrysociety.org.uk/workshop/nearlyology-a-new-poetry-challenge/

I hope this is helpful; do get in touch if you have any questions.

      Best of luck!

    1. Hi Kakrah,

Thanks for your comment. The Eric Gregory Awards aren’t run by YPN and more information can be found on their website. The competition is currently closed for 2018 so I think the best thing to do is to wait until next year when it re-opens to read the instructions, or get in touch with the organisers. http://www.societyofauthors.org/Prizes/Poetry/Eric-Gregory

      Best of luck!
