For National Poetry Day 2013, we present a fantastically imaginative and original selection of water imagery, inspired by the English National Ballet teaser challenge. Young Poets Network is collaborating with ENB to get young poets involved!
For our teaser challenge in collaboration with English National Ballet, we showed you excerpts from Byron’s poem The Corsair (1814), which is the inspiration behind English National Ballet’s forthcoming production of Le Corsaire (The Pirate). Le Corsaire ends in a tragic shipwreck, one of the most breath-taking spectacles in ballet, which mirrors the poem’s interest in the seductive danger of the sea. We asked you to come up with your own lines and phrases of poetry about the sea, so we could create an inspiring poetry-cloud.
The theme of National Poetry Day 2013 is ‘Water, water, everywhere’, so this seems like a lovely way to celebrate, with gorgeous lines from talented young poets!
Congratulations to Ailsa McDougall, Eleanor Wride, Jake Martin, Mary Anne Clark and Maryam F Chaudri, who were randomly selected to be sent exclusive Young Poets Network notebooks and ENB goodies.
And thank you to all the poets who contributed such brilliant lines!
